A D.C. man has been sentenced to serve 24 years in prison for the murder of his wife, a devastating conclusion to a case that rattled the Northeast community last year. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, 48-year-old Wyatt Swan pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed in connection with the death of Teresa Francisco, and will follow his prison sentence with five years of supervised release.
The tragic incident, which occurred on October 1, 2024, began within the couple's apartment and ended in a nearby parking lot where Swan fatally shot Francisco after chasing her down. Following the attack, Swan managed to initially evade law enforcement before his arrest the following day with cooperation from the Prince George's County Police Department.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith, of the Metropolitan Police Department, acknowledged the combined efforts that led to Swan's sentencing after a thorough investigation. Their announcements also highlighted the support of the Prince George's County Police Department, the thorough investigative work of the Metropolitan Police Department, and the legal rigor demonstrated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Evans, credited by Pirro and Smith for his role in prosecuting the case, contributed to the justice delivered in court, where the Honorable Jason Park of the D.C. Superior Court imposed the multi-decade sentence.
