Charlotte’s business sector is set to grow with the announcement by Governor Josh Stein that Daimler Truck Financial Services USA (DTFS) will establish its headquarters in the city. The move is expected to create 276 jobs in Mecklenburg County and involves an investment of over $7.8 million. DTFS, the financial services division of Daimler Truck North America, will consolidate its administrative, human resources, and financial operations from Michigan and Texas into a new 60,000-square-foot facility in Charlotte’s Ballantyne area.

DTFS is consolidating its teams as part of its strategy to expand extended services and to be closer to Daimler Truck North America operations. "We’re thrilled to establish our new headquarters in the Ballantyne area—this move marks a pivotal step in aligning our team closer to DTNA and advancing our strategy for long-term services growth," said Kevin Bangston, president and CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services, according to the official press release. The company plans to offer new positions with an average annual salary of $133,940, significantly above the county’s average of $86,830.

Charlotte's prominence as the second-largest banking center in America was noted as a key factor in the company's decision. "Charlotte is the second largest banking center in the United States," Lee Lilley, Commerce Secretary, told the Governor's office. "Daimler Truck knows the proximity to its existing manufacturing operations, combined with our excellent business climate and thriving financial sector, makes North Carolina the best place to grow and expand."

This relocation is supported by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG), which was approved by state officials, and could result in up to $4,174,500 in reimbursements to DTFS over 12 years, provided that the company meets specific job creation and investment targets. The project's impacts are projected to stimulate the state’s economy by approximately $1.08 billion, offering a reported 119 percent return on investment of public dollars. Notably, because DTFS choose Mecklenburg County for its headquarters, a portion of the JDIG funds will go towards the state's Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account, supporting infrastructure upgrades in rural communities.

Local and state officials have expressed their support and optimism for the economic benefits this move promises. Senator Woodson Bradley conveyed, "This is outstanding news for Mecklenburg County and the entire state." Meanwhile, Representative Laura Budd highlighted the local impact, asserting, "These well-paying jobs will be transformative for our talent pipeline as we help the company take root in our community," in a statement obtained by the Governor's office.
