The City of Dallas just dropped a major upgrade for local wheel-sport enthusiasts with its latest Bachman Lake Skatepark, a gnarly 45,600-square-foot concrete wonderland, open to everything with wheels - that's skateboards, BMX bikes, scooters, and yes, even the once mall-bound rollerblades are welcome here. The park got its $3.9 million go-juice from the city's 2017 bond program and is ready to roll after its grand unveiling event last Saturday, according to the City of Dallas.
Skate culture hounds with historical leanings may recall Bachman's rep as the go-to skateboarding haven in the 80s, thanks to its iconic Clown Ramp and Blue Ramp; however, now it's all about the Street Scape Area, Flow Bowl, Snake Run and Pool Bowl that are part of the new setup, skaters of all levels have something to shreddit on. Dallas Park and Recreation Board's President Arun Agarwal was among the city officials waxing about the park's inclusive design and regional draw, an element echoed by Omar Narvaez, Dallas City Council District 6, and Tim Dickey of the Dallas Park and Recreation Board District 6.
The park serves as a sequel to the city’s skate park scene with Lakeland Hills Skate Park already carving out its legacy though that one's prefab, modular-heavy design pales in comparison to the new state-of-the-art Bachman Lakeside venue. Dr. Clinton Haley from Skate Parks for Dallas pointed out the new park's potential to energize the sport's community, spark regional tourism and offer a safe space for Dallas' skating aficionados to flourish.
