The City of Dallas is rolling out a brand new skatepark this Saturday, with Mayor Eric L. Johnson expected to lead the opening ceremony. Situated by Bachman Lake, the newly constructed Bachman Lake Skatepark is a professionally designed paradise for skaters of all stripes, encompassing those on rollerblades, BMX bikes, scooters, and skateboards. With a hefty price tag of $3.9 million provided by the city's 2017 bond program, the park becomes a concrete homage to skate culture.
Spanning 45,600 square feet, the park is not just about its scale but also its diverse features tailored for various expertise levels, including the "Street Scape Area," "Flow Bowl," "Snake Run," and "Pool Bowl." This dedication to the sport isn't new for the Bachman Lake locale. In the 1980s, according to a press release from the City of Dallas, it boasted ramps like the iconic Clown Ramp and the Blue Ramp, destinations that once put Dallas on the skateboarding map.
An assembly of local dignitaries, including Dallas City Council member Omar Narvaez, Dallas Park and Recreation Board President Arun Agarwal, and Board Member Tim Dickey, will join Mayor Johnson for the inaugural ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. this Saturday. John Jenkins, Director of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, and Dr. Clinton Haley, representing Skate Parks for Dallas, are also expected, as detailed by an official communique.
The park's grand opening is public, and the press is invited to attend. The event occurs at Bachman Lake Park, 2530 Webb Chapel Extension in Dallas, Texas. Those interested in covering the event media-wise can RSVP here or text the provided number for confirmation.
