Earlier today, a construction site designated for a new daycare facility went up in flames near the Mecklenburg-Cabarrus County line causing a massive fire that reduced the building to ashes. According to WBTV, the blaze began along Farmington Ridge Parkway, just off Rocky River Road and I-485, garnering a response from both Charlotte and Harrisburg Fire Departments.
The structure, which was to become an Everbrook Academy daycare, failed to withstand the conflagration and was completely destroyed by the time firefighters quenched the flames. Neighboring Stead apartments experienced minor damage, with some units reporting cracked windows due to the intense heat from the fire. A source disclosed to WBTV that the daycare was set to open later in the year.
Meanwhile, WCCB Charlotte noted that smoke from the fire was visible from miles away. However, details about the cause of the fire and whether there were any injuries remain unclear. The area affected by the smoke is on Farmington Ridge Parkway, situated close to Interstate 485 and Rocky River Road.
Photos and messages sent in by viewers in the Farmington community suggest the fire originated around 10:30 a.m. and produced a thick, black cloud of smoke that could be seen enveloping the sky. WCNC Charlotte also received multiple images and video clips through their app and social media platforms, visually confirming the intensity of the situation on the ground.
As of now, investigations into the cause of the fire at the construction site are ongoing. Local authorities have not yet released any further information on the incident.
