Denver residents are stepping up their self-defense game thanks to a free community class offered by the local police department. According to the Denver Police Department, they showcased pictures of 38 individuals who participated in a self-defense class held at the Johnson Recreation Center this past Saturday. The class, led by Lieutenant Noel Ikeda, an 8th Degree Black Belt with more than three decades of martial arts experience, provided a primer in Krav Maga.
The police aim to empower the community, emphasizing the importance of avoiding confrontations while also equipping individuals with the skills to defend themselves if necessary. According to the Denver Police Department, in a social media post, the class covered a variety of defensive tactics and worked to build self-confidence among attendees. "Committed to crime prevention, our instructors work to empower students, teaching them to avoid incidents at all costs and to defend against a variety of attacks, while bolstering self-confidence," the post detailed.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Denver Police to enhance safety and crime prevention in the community. Recognizing the importance of preparation, the training sessions aim to prepare residents for a range of scenarios while emphasizing the importance of avoiding violence when possible. The response to the training appears to be positive, with a clear demand for additional sessions in the future.
