As Memorial Day approaches, the City of Detroit sets the stage for a reflective holiday punctuated by closed city offices and adjusted public services. May 26 will see most city offices shut their doors in honor of the occasion, except for the essential functions of Police, Fire, and Water and Sewerage services, which will remain operational to ensure the city's safety and infrastructure needs are met. This comes as an announcement from the City of Detroit’s official website, asserting the importance of maintaining crucial services even as the city pauses to commemorate those who have served.

In city sanitation, Monday marks a shift in the schedule. The Department of Public Works won’t conduct its usual refuse, bulk, yard waste, and curbside recycling collection on the holiday. Instead, Monday's duties will roll over to Tuesday, while subsequent collections move one day forward. The adjustments extend to the week's end, with Friday's pick-up slated for Saturday, as outlined on the City of Detroit’s website.

Transit in Detroit will not halt but will follow a reduced schedule. The Department of Transportation (DDOT) plans to run bus services according to a Sunday timetable. While the physical DDOT Administration Offices will be closed, travelers can still plan their trips with bus schedules available online at detroitmi.gov/ddot. Customer service can be reached via phone for those in need of assistance. The Rosa Parks Transit Center, a critical node in the city's transport network, will keep its doors open to the commuting public.

The Detroit People Mover presents a viable option for residents requiring seamless mobility. It will maintain operations on both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 1 a.m., and on Monday up to midnight, specifically to accommodate attendees of the Movement Festival. Elsewhere, the Ford Underground Garage is preparing for the influx of festival-goers by remaining accessible 24 hours, from May 24 through May 26, and offering parking at a flat rate of $10.
