The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is waving a yellow flag at several popular coastline spots. Beach enthusiasts are being warned to avoid getting into the water at specific areas in Los Angeles County due to elevated bacterial levels.
The flagged areas include the entire swim area at Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, a stretch of 100 yards up and down from the Santa Monica Pier, and the same distance from the Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach. According to a bulletin from the department, these warnings come on the heels of testing that showed bacterial levels exceeding the benchmarks for health standards.
In the meantime, there's some good news for patrons of Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. The health folks have given the green light, lifting previous warnings as recent water quality tests now show levels within State standards.
