A fatal accident involving an e-scooter and a vehicle has taken the life of a man in Long Beach, as reported by the Long Beach Police Department. The incident, which occurred on April 29 at roughly 9:40 a.m. on the 6500 block of Atlantic Avenue, involved a collision as the e-scooter rider crossed a marked crosswalk.

As stated by CBS News Los Angeles, the e-scooter rider was tragically struck by a 2019 Honda Accord, whose driver, a 19-year-old Long Beach resident, ran a red light while traveling northbound towards Artesia Boulevard. Following the collision, the victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, before succumbing to his injuries five days later.

The Long Beach Police Department shared that the scooter operator remained hospitalized in the aftermath of the accident and was pronounced dead on May 3, 2025. However, the name of the victim is currently withheld, pending the notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Office of the Medical Examiner, as detailed in a Long Beach government press release.

Local authorities confirmed that the car's driver stayed at the scene to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. While not arrested or charged at the scene, speed is suspected as a contributing factor to the fatal crash. Detectives continue to investigate and are appealing to anyone with information about the accident to come forward and assist by contacting LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Efrain Pineda at (562) 570-7355 or through "LA Crime Stoppers."
