Yesterday afternoon, the historic Mitchell Courthouse in Baltimore was abruptly evacuated following the triggering of a fire alarm. According to the Baltimore City Sheriff's Office, a fire was reported in an office on the fourth floor of the building, specifically in Room 438. An employee of the Sheriff's Office managed to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher, as reported by WMAR2 News.
The evacuation prompt came when the alarm sounded, and the Fire Department rapidly responded to the emergency. The incident, which city fire officials say was contained to an office on the fourth floor, led to no reported injuries. The building was eventually cleared for re-entry, and the fire department cited an electrical issue as the expected source of the blaze.
The Baltimore City Sheriff's Office issued the initial alert, "The building has been evacuated and the Fire Department is on the scene." The swift action taken by the Sheriff's Office staff effectively prevented a potential escalation of the fire.
