Montgomery County is rolling out a trio of springtime activities this month at Green Lane Park to provide residents and outdoor enthusiasts with hands-on environmental education. One such event, the Natural Tie-Dye Workshop at Pennypacker Mills, will guide participants through using plants to create natural dyes. Happening on May 10 at 1 PM, attendees are encouraged to bring their own cotton items or use a provided bandana for dyeing. There is a $5 fee to cover materials, and while adults 16 and older are welcome, pre-registrations are necessary by calling (610) 287-6970, as reported by a Montgomery County announcement.
In tune with the rhythm of spring migration, Green Lane Park has also arranged an Earlybird Walk on May 17 at 8 AM. Enjoying the rising sun will be an eclectic mix of beginning and seasoned birdwatchers, walking two miles in search of various migrating species. All interested parties over 12 should remember to bring binoculars and dress appropriately for a morning outdoors. This experience is available at no charge, but reservations are required and can be made using the same contact number.
Lastly, on May 31 at 1 PM, the Leave No Trace program will illustrate the environmental impact of littering. Ranger Rotenberger will demonstrate trash decay through simulations. As trash, like a banana peel or an ignored tissue, describes the long decomposition process in nature, visitors will learn the principles of eco-friendly behavior and the Leave No Trace method. The park invites everyone over 12 to engage in this free learning experience, with the county's bulletin again emphasizing the necessity of pre-registration.
