Mark your calendars, art lovers: The Grand Gallery at the Frisco Discovery Center is rolling out the red carpet for the eclectic and imaginative world of printmaking. An exhibit fittingly named "imPRESSive," in collaboration with The Cedars Union, is showcasing the diversity and richness of this art form from June 4 through the end of August 2025. Admission won't cost you a dime.
The exhibition features a range of techniques surely to, catch any art aficionado's eye, traditional woodcuts, lithography, revolutionary screenprints, and linocuts included. "imPRESSive" is not just about displaying art – it's an invitation to delve into the different layers of media and visual imagery crafted by seasoned printmakers hailing from across the region. Each piece in the gallery, resonating with craftsmanship and cultural significance, is a nod to printmaking's adaptability and timeless appeal, per the City of Frisco.
For a more tactile experience, the exhibit is spiced up with events like the reception on June 7 from 4:30-6 p.m., where guests can mingle with the artists over light refreshments and gain insights during an artist panel. But if you're keen on getting your hands dirty, the "Bold ImPRESSions" Lino Block Workshop with artist Magaly Cantú, also on June 7, offers a two-hour dive into hand-printing relief prints from linoleum.
Don't miss out on "Long Live Linocuts!" either, a workshop scheduled for July 24 led by Lynne Hubner, whose accolades include Co-Founder and past President of the North Texas Printmakers Guild, as well as Exhibit Curator at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary. Those who participate stand to learn a thing or two about non-toxic print techniques from a veritable expert in the field.
