Big trucks, city planning, and playtime collide at Dove Valley Regional Park this June as Arapahoe County Public Works and Development throws open its doors to the public for a unique family-friendly event. Kids and their parents will get the chance on June 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., to closely explore the busy world of public works, with a line-up of fun activities designed to educate and entertain.
Attendees are expected to quickly jump in and navigate through various interactive stations at the annual Play Date event, as reported by Arapahoe County. The hands-on experiences include sitting behind the wheel of heavy roadwork machinery, mastering the safety of crosswalks, and even testing their skills as junior building inspectors.
"This is one of our favorite events each year, giving parents the opportunity to learn more about the programs and services PWD provides and giving their kids the chance to play, learn important safety tips and explore the jobs in public works and development,” said PWD Director Bryan Weimer, as per Arapahoe County.
Besides all the hands-on fun, families will also be able to witness firsthand the unveiling of a new asphalt paver's name, a contest held amongst the county's elementary students ends May 30, and the winner gets cool prizes. For those more inclined towards urban development, city planning activities beckon, offering kids an opportunity to learn how communities are shaped. The recent $18 million update to the very park hosting the event, Dove Valley Regional Park, will also serve as a living example of public works' impact.
