Flushed from the streets of Flushing, a man stands convicted for his role in a harrowing Queens home invasion and robbery. Identified as Michael Fan, the 25-year-old is now a fugitive, bearing the weight of guilt for burglary and robbery among other crimes, all dispensed in his absence. News of his conviction spread on May 21, with the Queens District Attorney's Office detailing the aggressive September 2022 assault on an unsuspecting woman right in front of her residence.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz highlighted the severity of Fan's actions, stating: "Michael Fan attacked a young woman as she smoked a cigarette in front of her home." The victim, terrorized whilst the robbers, including Fan and his accomplices, pilfered through her abode, could have suffered more if not for the swift actions of her partner and the police. Katz's narrative speaks to a chilling scenario—bounds and threats at knifepoint, the victim's place ransacked, her safety hanging by a thread. With Fan's whereabouts unknown post-conviction, the call for information remains urgent, with the NYPD Warrant Squad awaiting leads at 917-319-3780, as per the Queens District Attorney's Office release.
Fan isn’t the only one facing justice. His co-defendant, Sihao Wang, 24, from Flushing, has already pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison as of January 18, 2024. Another suspect, Dong Ming Shi, is believed to have fled the country and remains at large. Fan’s conviction could lead to up to 25 years in prison, showing how seriously violent crimes are treated in the justice system
The incident, described by the Queens District Attorney's Office, began with a sudden ambush that quickly turned into a robbery. Police arrived in time to stop the crime, spotting Fan through a window as the situation shifted. During the chaos, the victim freed herself, opened a gate, and helped lead police to the suspects, who were arrested and the stolen items recovered.
