An Azusa man, identified as a former captain with the California Highway Patrol, has been charged with abusive sexual contact after allegedly assaulting a flight attendant on a JetBlue Airways flight from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles International Airport. According to FOX LA, Dennis Wally Woodbury, 49, faces federal charges for his conduct on the April 13 flight. Court documents obtained by FOX LA allege that Woodbury not only slapped a male flight attendant's buttocks but also exposed himself to another flight attendant during the flight.
The grand jury indictment, as reported by the U.S. Department of Justice, states Woodbury "engaged in inappropriate conduct" with two flight attendants. In the lead-up to the flight's departure, he is said to have shown a flight attendant a photo of a dog that contained pornographic imagery, later making a crude hand gesture. Court documents reveal that the inebriated Woodbury also proclaimed his love for a flight attendant after slapping his buttocks, an act he appeared to feel was jovial.
Woodbury's arraignment is scheduled for May 12 in Los Angeles. If convicted, he could serve up to two years in federal prison. Woodbury, now released on a $50,000 bond, made his initial federal court appearance last month.
Detailed in the indictment are incidents where Woodbury is alleged to have pulled down his trousers and underwear twice, exposing himself despite a flight attendant's objections. "Enough, go back to your seat," the flight attendant reportedly said to Woodbury, as quoted by the Department of Justice's press release, after denying him wine and witnessing the second exposure. The FBI and Los Angeles Airport Police are investigating the case, with Assistant United States Attorney William M. Larsen leading the prosecution.
