Two victims, both females and employees of Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology, were hospitalized on Friday following a shooting on the school's Inglewood campus, as confirmed by KTLA. The incident occurred before 4:00 p.m. along Aviation Boulevard. A suspect, described as a Hispanic male and former college employee clad in attire akin to a security uniform, was apprehended following a manhunt that culminated in the Pico-Union area.
According to statements obtained by NBC Los Angeles, the suspected gunman was said to be a former security guard at the school, and stalwart employees were gathered for an 'employee appreciation day' when the tragedy unfolded. Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts detailed the event, indicating the shooter struck one victim in the head, execution style. The suspect was caught approximately 10 miles from the college, near Berendo Middle School, and a firearm was seized during his arrest.
Emergency services, including the Los Angeles County Fire Department, responded to the scene where one of the women shot is in critical condition while the other is reportedly stable. This information was detailed by FOX 11. It was determined by officials that this event was not an active shooter situation, dismissing earlier concerns that the assailant could be in hiding on campus grounds.
CBS News Los Angeles reported that the male suspect was located after his family contacted authorities via a 911 call, informing them of his actions and whereabouts, he had shot two women. He was ultimately arrested with the alleged weapon found in his vehicle's backseat, and police arrested him without further incident, according to officials.
