Governor Josh Green, M.D. has officially declared May as Haʻaheo, Pride in Public Service Month in Hawai‘i. This initiative recognizes the dedication and contributions of state workers and acknowledges their role in maintaining effective governance, according to the Office of the Governor.

In recognition of their dedicated service, the Governor has assigned department heads to acknowledge state employees for their contributions. “Mahalo to all of our state employees for your contributions and tireless efforts!” Governor Green stated in a message from the Office of the Governor. Additionally, the Governor has issued an executive memorandum to guide the celebration of public service and ensure proper acknowledgment of this vital workforce.

Brenna Hashimoto, director of the Department of Human Resources Development, expressed support for the statewide initiative, saying, “We are happy to recognize our hard-working employees during Pride in Public Service month.” She added, “The work they do every day keeps state government running smoothly while supporting the needs of our residents and visitors and they deserve our aloha.” The Public Employees Roundtable and the Partnership for Public Service are also hosting the annual Public Service Recognition Week to recognize the work of public sector employees. In honor of Hawai‘i’s public service workers, Haʻaheo, Pride in Public Service flags will be displayed at the Hawai‘i State Capitol throughout the month, as reported by the Office of the Governor.
