Russell Maxwell Phay, 43, was arrested by Santa Barbara County authorities after a home invasion on the 1000 block of Fairway Road, as mentioned by CBS News Los Angeles. Deputies responded last Wednesday afternoon to a report of a possible vehicle theft or break-in. They found a woman with severe injuries and discovered Phay inside the home. He barricaded himself in an upstairs bathroom and later tried to escape by jumping from a second-story window. The woman is in a coma at a local hospital. Phay is charged with first-degree attempted murder with premeditation and assault likely to cause great bodily injury.
Phay has been charged with residential burglary with a person present, kidnapping, and resisting or delaying a peace officer. According to CBS News Los Angeles, 80-year-old Ty Warner was inside the home during the break-in. Authorities said Phay did not know the victim, and no motive has been shared. The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the charges and said the victim is in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.
