Henderson locals and transportation enthusiasts alike take note: your future commutes and travel options might soon evolve. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the City of Henderson are working together to bring a new mobility hub to the area—a centralized spot where various methods of transport converge, including passenger rail and public transportation. To get the public's thoughts and to showcase the conceptual blueprints, two open houses are slated for mid-May.
The open houses are a chance for community members to actively engage with and contribute to the proposed plans for the new Henderson Mobility Hub. Set to occur next Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Perry Memorial Library and next Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Former First National Bank Building—the potential site of the hub—attendees will have the opportunity to directly impact the hub designs and to freely give their relevant feedback on amenities, aesthetics, and size. An informative video introducing the S-Line project and the concept of mobility hubs will be also available to aid in understanding the wider scope of this venture.
According to the NCDOT's announcement, a mobility hub is not just a public facility for regional and local transport options, but it also provides related mobility services and facilities. These hubs are designed to smoothly allow users to transition from one mode of transportation to another, such as from a bicycle to a bus or shuttle, in effort to streamline and diversify the transportation experience.
The design of Henderson's hub is part of the larger S-Line rail project, which aims to enhance connectivity across several communities. The NCDOT's Integrated Mobility Division is leveraging these workshops not only to gather public input but to also thoroughly consider design options that will best serve the local and regional needs.
