As Hillsborough County's Mosquito Management Services marks its 75th anniversary, locals are invited to join in on a family-fun event celebrating this milestone. The community can engage with the team responsible for safeguarding public health by controlling the mosquito population and preventing the spread of diseases these pests carry. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event unfolds at 6527 Eureka Springs Rd., Tampa, FL 33610, as reported by Hillsborough County's official newsroom.
The day's activities will not only celebrate the past achievements but also educate residents on the evolution of mosquito management. A variety of professionals—scientists, inspectors, helicopter pilots, and educators—will be available to explain the program's advancements over the years and discuss its future trajectory. An open house with guided tours, interactive displays, and an opportunity to view and snap a photo inside a Mosquito Management helicopter are among the event's offerings.
At the core of Hillsborough's Mosquito Management team is the mission to educate the public. It's a widely accepted fact that individual residents play a critical role in controlling the mosquito population in their immediate environment. The educational segment of the event aims to demonstrate actionable steps every household can undertake to mitigate mosquito breeding on their properties, highlighting the fact that mosquitoes can breed in minimal amounts of standing water.
As part of the public education initiative, the team's educators will provide valuable knowledge, teaching attendees how to identify potential mosquito breeding sites and take preventative measures.
