The National Weather Service forecasts clouds and showers for windward and mauka areas throughout the week. These conditions are caused by moderate to locally breezy trade winds influenced by high pressure to the north-northwest, according to the National Weather Service.
Leeward zones will receive some showers moving across the terrain. "Some locally heavy downpours and even a few rumbles of thunder will be possible across portions of the state late Wednesday night through Friday evening" due to an upper-level disturbance that will weaken over the weekend. Pilots can expect moderate to breezy trade winds, with the strongest gusts from mid-morning to late afternoon. Windward and mauka areas will have most low clouds and showers, especially at night and in the morning. AIRMET Sierra is active this morning due to mountain obscuration across multiple islands, with conditions expected to improve by late morning, as reported by the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has issued a Small Craft Advisory through Thursday evening for marine areas around the Big Island and Maui due to sustained trade winds, with the advisory likely to continue into the weekend. South shore surf, currently below summer levels, is expected to rise to average summer levels from Thursday through Saturday before decreasing early next week. East shore surf will remain near seasonal averages, and north shore waves will stay small. Memorial Day weekend is expected to have improved weather following a few days of possible storms.
