The National Weather Service Honolulu Weather Forecast reports a moderate to occasionally breezy trade wind pattern this week. This will bring clouds and showers mainly to windward and mauka areas, with some leeward locations also experiencing rain, according to the National Weather Service.
“The upper level disturbance will gradually weaken over the weekend into early next week, and precipitable waters values will similarly slowly decrease,” resulting in reduced shower coverage and intensity ahead of Memorial Day weekend. In aviation, “AIRMET Sierra is now in effect for mountain obscuration across windward sections of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island,” which may cause delays and visibility issues for travelers, with improvements expected by late this morning, as reported by the National Weather Service.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 6 AM HST on Wednesday for several channels due to moderate to locally strong trade winds expected through the week. The high-pressure system causing the winds is forecast to move westward over the weekend, leading to a slight decrease in wind speeds. Surf along south-facing shores is expected to remain below seasonal averages. Island weather will be variable, with periods of rain and clearing skies, as stated by the National Weather Service.
