As confirmed by Milwaukee County Chief Judge Carl Ashley yesterday, ICE agents made their move after the court hearing was concluded. "I have been informed that an ICE arrest took place this morning, May 7, in the Courthouse Complex," Ashley relayed in a message, as reported by FOX6 News.
In recent months, ICE has conducted similar operations at or near courthouses in Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties, totaling at least five arrests. Before this arrest, the apprehension of Eduardo Flores-Ruiz on April 18 in Milwaukee County was notable, as it led to the subsequent FBI arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan. Waiting until the hearing was completed, two other men were arrested in March at the Milwaukee County Courthouse complex, as noted by WISN 12 News.
The latest enforcement action comes amid heightened scrutiny over ICE's practices, particularly focusing on the appropriateness of detaining individuals at sites dedicated to court proceedings. While judges were reported to be aware of the operation, none disclosed the identity of the defendant taken by ICE agents. "I have been informed that an ICE arrest occurred today, May 7, at the Courthouse Complex after the court hearing was completed," Ashley noted, according to a text message obtained by the Journal Sentinel.
