In the ongoing murder trial of a Joppatowne High School student, the state has finished its presentation against Jaylen Prince, 16, who is accused of fatally shooting 15-year-old Warren Grant during an argument inside the school bathroom on September 6, 2024. As reported by FOX Baltimore the state's case closure, which included testimony from a Corporal with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Unit on executed search warrants, the defense filed a motion for Prince's acquittal which the judge denied, and the defense promptly began bringing their witnesses, including Prince's mother, to the stand.
Testifying on her son's behalf, Rykiech Prince spoke of Jaylen's hand injury that occurred in April 2024 leaving him with restricted finger movement, amid questioning, the State's Attorney, Alison Healey confronted her about the ammunition found under her son's mattress, Jaylen’s extensive school absences amounting to over 100 days and him taking photos holding a gun with his functioning left hand, information courtesy of a CBS News Baltimore report. Furthermore, a student witness's testimony claimed Jaylen Prince was warned to stay away from Warren Grant's girlfriend, which led to an altercation, seemingly corroborated by a video capturing a verbal threat and the fatal gunshot.
A digital forensics expert gave crucial evidence about Jaylen Prince's phone usage, revealing he had arranged to buy a gun and made various inquiries related to firearms, including about hollow point bullets, three weeks before the shooting. Whereas, another witness heard Prince after the shooting, instructing to dispose of the gun in the water, according to CBS News Baltimore. Despite these findings, the defense maintains that the bullets' match to those found at the scene does not ensure they came from Prince's home, and the murder weapon remains undiscovered.
