Get ready to navigate the gentle waves of Lake Johnson as the ACA of North Carolina teams up with the North Carolina State Parks for their annual Kayaking 101 event. Set to launch on Saturday, this event kicks off National Safe Boating Week and promises to teach beginners the essentials of kayaking. According to a press release on Raleigh's official government website, North Carolina is enabling 230 prospective paddlers to dip their oars at 13 different locations.
Beyond steering through serene waters, participants also contribute to a noble cause; the $15 fee per person is to be entirely donated for Hurricane Helene relief efforts. The recipients of the collective act of goodwill will be disclosed by the ACA of North Carolina via their Facebook page following the event. Designed for those who have not before tested the kayak's balance, the day is filled, volunteering their expertise, with ACA Certified Instructors coordinating and teaching the courses.
In an act of meaningful partnership, local sponsors have supplied the kayaks, paddles, and life jackets, eliminating the need for personal equipment—although, participants insisting on using their gear may do so pending safety approval by the instructors. Mark your calendar for Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., if you're 18 or above and looking to glide along Lake Johnson's scenic vistas. Despite the event being free of charge, the invaluable experience and contribution to those in need make it a must-attend occasion for community and adventure enthusiasts alike.
