The City of Keller has dedicated this week to commemorating the vital efforts of its Fire-Rescue Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team in conjunction with National EMS Week. This period is intended to recognize the first responders who provide the initial care during emergencies. A social media post from Keller Public Safety highlighted the contributions of these professionals.
In celebration of National EMS Week and National Trauma Survivors Day, a special event unfolded as the Keller EMS joined forces with Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Grapevine to host a Trauma Survivor Reunion. Here, trauma survivors, including the resilient Nina Alvarez, had the opportunity to reflexively share their harrowing stories and reconnect with the emergency teams instrumental in their survival. As reported by Keller Public Safety, Alvarez, who had to endure a traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures after being hit by a car, has been actively supported by the community throughout her recovery process.
Nina was not only honored at the Trauma Survivor Reunion; the EMS team members who responded to her call were also acknowledged for their exemplary service. Keller Public Safety mentioned the team by name: Brad Daugirda, Drew Franklin, Seth Lynch, Donny Ramirez, James Venrick, Christopher Reese, and David Williams. These individuals received public praise for the critical care they provided to Nina on the scene of her accident.
The celebration was even more meaningful as it coincided with Nina's 16th birthday. The gathered crowd sang "Happy Birthday," an act that Keller Public Safety described as "extra sweet." These dual celebrations served as a poignant reminder of the EMS team's unwavering commitment and the incredible milestones achieved in trauma care.
