Residents along the Lake Michigan shoreline are being urged to exercise caution as hazardous conditions persist through late tonight. According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, life-threatening waves reaching heights of 3 to 5 feet, coupled with dangerous currents, have prompted a Beach Hazards Statement that remains in effect for Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha Counties.
"Stay out of the water and away from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls," the NWS statement warns. Strong structural and longshore currents are expected, and there is a potential for rip currents, further elevating the risk to those who may disregard these advisories. The conditions are a result of North winds gusting up to 24 mph, contributing not just to perilous swimming conditions but also to misty and rainy weather across the area.
The weather scenario in Milwaukee is far from inviting, with the National Weather Service reporting a chilly high near 47 degrees today and an ongoing 90% chance of precipitation that includes rain showers and possibly a quarter of an inch of new precipitation. The humidity standing at a high 97% further adds a clingy, wet blanket over the city, compelling most to indoor retreats.
Looking ahead, the forecast for the weekend suggests some respite, with mostly sunny conditions anticipated by Friday, and a continued trend into Saturday. However, for those planning outdoor activities around Memorial Day, there's a 30 percent chance of showers to consider, possibly necessitating alternate, indoor plans.
