The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that left a woman dead early Friday morning in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles. According to FOX LA, the call came in at approximately 12:35 a.m. at the intersection of Florence Avenue and Towne Avenue, where a vehicle struck a pedestrian and fled the scene.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a black Dodge Charger or Dodge Challenger that was traveling westbound on Florence Avenue before hitting the victim. KTLA reports the collision was severe enough to launch the woman westward onto the roadway, after which the driver continued driving without stopping.

The Los Angeles Fire Department personnel declared the woman deceased on the scene, and Florence Avenue was subsequently closed between San Pedro Street and Avalon Boulevard for investigation purposes. The LAPD's South Traffic Division has assumed leadership of the case, seeking any information that might lead to the identification of both the victim and the suspect.

Adding a twist to the case, it was later reported by CBS News Los Angeles that the alleged driver responsible for the hit-and-run, after initially fleeing the scene, returned sometime later. Once returning, they were taken into custody for a felony hit-and-run. Details about the suspect's motives for returning or how they were identified upon return have not been disclosed by officials.
