The city installed yellow dividers around Arbor View High School after reports of dangerous driving, but traffic patterns are expected to change as the school year ends. Families have raised concerns about faded crosswalk lines. The community group "Walk Safely LV," formed in memory of 18-year-old McKenzie Scott, has reported improvements in traffic awareness near the school, as reported by News 3LV. Arbor View High School Principal Duane Bickmore told the group's founder, Krista Holloway, that he cannot formally manage traffic or crossing guard activities due to liability concerns. Parent Ashley Brewer, whose son survived a similar crosswalk incident, has contacted city officials multiple times seeking changes.
Emails obtained by News 3 LV show that the Clark County School District and city officials discussed safety improvements at a school crosswalk, resulting in temporary upgrades. Permanent measures such as speed bumps and traffic flashers require city approval and funding. Clark County School District Deputy Superintendent Jesse Welsh stated the city is responsible for enhancing crosswalk safety. Reports also noted students driving in oncoming traffic lanes to access the school parking lot near Arbor View. The city and traffic unit have not responded to these concerns.
