
The City of Las Vegas will hold the Annual Compassionate Las Vegas Awards on Friday at 10 a.m. The ceremony will take place in the City Hall Council Chambers at 495 S. Main St. The event will recognize individuals who have shown dedication to improving the community through acts of compassion in various fields, according to the City of Las Vegas.
The City of Las Vegas will present the 2025 Compassionate Las Vegas Awards in seven categories, including environmental sustainability, education, housing security, and human trafficking prevention. Community members nominated candidates for these awards. Pauline van Betten was recognized for her work in protecting Red Rock Canyon and securing funding for conservation. Latoya Holman, from the Public Education Foundation, was honored for expanding educational opportunities for marginalized students through scholarship programs with local leadership.
Katherine Anderson’s Aquatic Life program provides swim lessons for children with disabilities, focusing on those with autism. Pastor Russell Smethers was recognized for his work with The Giving Project and Resource Center, supporting housing security and helping individuals in need. Kimberly Harvey, co-founder of the Nevada Policy Council on Human Trafficking, received recognition for her role in passing legislation to combat human trafficking in Southern Nevada. Maria Tucker’s Jeremiah Program Las Vegas helps single mothers and their children break the cycle of poverty. Robert Bush’s Legal Night initiative offers legal resources and guidance to those facing legal challenges, as reported by the City of Las Vegas.
