Residents of Lewisville are gearing up for a significant addition to their local trails, as the city prepares for the ceremonial first dig of the Centennial Trail. This public event, part of the larger tapestry of the Centennial Celebration, is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. in Central Park, located at 1899 Edmonds Lane. The new trail is a step towards realizing a vision where every community member can access parks and open spaces within a breezy 10-minute walk from home, according to the City of Lewisville.

The Centennial Trail aims to connect with the Timber Creek Trail, offering a seamless path from Lewisville's western boundary to Central Park. The trail will stretch east along Timber Creek to Corporate Drive. According to the City of Lewisville's proclamation, the trail is "a key component to meeting goals established in the Lewisville 2025 Big Move - Extending the Green and the Healthy Infrastructure Plan." This plan emphasizes the city's commitment to green spaces and healthier lifestyles for its citizens.

Design and oversight for the trail's development have been put in the hands of TBG Partners. The proposed design includes a 12-foot wide concrete hike and bike trail complete with pedestrian bridges and low water crossings, following the natural meander of Timber Creek Greenbelt. In their dedication to the community, the city plans to provide seating along the trail, alongside amenities like bike racks and trash/recycling receptacles.
