The tragic Compton drive-by shooting that claimed the lives of a mother and her daughter has led to a $20,000 reward for information, as announced by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. The victims, 45-year-old La'von Hall and her 22-year-old daughter Ma'Laysia Martin, were gunned down on April 1 while waiting at a stoplight at the intersection of Caldwell Street and Central Avenue, a CBS Los Angeles report detailed.
At approximately 7:00 p.m., the women were in their vehicle when a suspect's car pulled alongside, opened fire, and sped away south on Central Avenue. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies who responded to the scene discovered Hall in the street and her daughter seated in the front seat of the car, each with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts, they were pronounced dead at the location, as FOX LA reported.
The primary suspect in the case is Donte Brown, aged 41, described to be about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing approximately 250 pounds, featuring black hair and brown eyes. Brown, who is regarded as armed and dangerous, was an ex-boyfriend of Hall and is known to hang around the Long Beach and Compton areas. Since the identification of the suspect, Brown has evaded capture, authorities noted in a statement from NBC Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors hopes that the $20,000 incentive will encourage those with knowledge of the crime to come forward. Anyone with information is implored to contact the LASD's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500, or submit anonymous tips by calling 800-222-8477 or visiting lacrimestoppers.org. Detectives believe there may be witnesses who have yet to provide information that could be crucial to the case.
