A tragic love triangle is believed to be the catalyst for a deadly shooting that occurred in Philadelphia's Wynnefield Heights neighborhood. According to NBC Philadelphia, the incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday at The Helston apartment complex on Conshohocken Avenue. A 35-year-old man was discovered shot in bed with wounds to the head and chest, and was pronounced dead shortly after.
Investigators at the scene, as relayed by Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, found "the scene inside the apartment is the victim lying in the bed and four spent shell casings in the bedroom." The proximity of the shooter to the victim when the shots were fired suggests it was a targeted killing. As per a 6ABC report, police took into custody a 33-year-old man from a neighboring apartment building, identified by a woman who was also in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
Adding to the details of the case, FOX29 reported that the suspect supposedly dragged the female witness out of the apartment by her hair after the fatal confrontation. This act violently concluded what police suspect to be the deadly conclusion of a love triangle. The arrested individual's rapid identification by the witness helped authorities apprehend him a short time after the shooting.
Further investigation continues as officials piece together the events that led up to the incident. The name of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. A somber reminder of passion's potential for destruction, the Wynnefield Heights community comes to terms with the brutal crime shaking their sense of security.
