The latest weekly crime summary from the Manhattan Beach Police Department, detailing incidents from May 1 to Wednesday, presents a concise overview of local law enforcement activity in the seaside city. According to the report, the police responded to a total of 688 calls for service, made 14 arrests, took 33 reports, and documented 24 traffic collisions.
While the city registered no cases of auto theft or business burglaries, residential burglaries and thefts were noted, with two cases of residential burglaries occurring in patrol areas 1 and 4, and thefts being the most frequent crime with six incidents spread across different patrol areas, while vandalism and vehicle burglary also persisted but to a lesser extent. The police officers were busy this week as they were dispatched to multiple events including the arrest of two juveniles who were transported to juvenile hall after being involved in a violent confrontation that caused bodily harm to a victim on May 2; yet, it was later discovered they hadn’t actually gone through with a robbery.
One particularly serious event involved a fatal traffic collision on May 3, in which a pedestrian was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle, resulting in the driver’s arrest on charges including felony DUI and murder; the investigation remains open, and those with information are urged to contact Officer Gaunt. In an unrelated concern, on May 5, officers responded to a report of residential burglary at an under-construction property, where it was discovered that the premises had been breached and tools along with electrical equipment stolen, victims in residential areas have begun reporting their woes, desperate for a modicum of safety and control over their private sanctuaries.
Additionally, that same evening, the police looked into a suspicious incident where an unknown party attempted to break into a residence by damaging several window screens, fortunately, no actual entry was made, nor were items reported missing. Amid these events, the Manhattan Beach Police Department also dispensed important crime prevention tips to help community members safeguard against vehicle burglaries, emphasizing measures such as locking doors, concealing valuables, utilizing anti-theft devices, and reporting any suspicious conduct to the authorities.
