As Memorial Day approaches, Marion residents need to keep in mind some schedule changes for city services. According to the City of Marion's official announcement, all City Departments, including those operating out of City Hall, will stay closed on May 26 to observe the federal holiday.
In preparation for the day of remembrance, sanitation services will pause collections on Monday. Instead, those whose waste is typically gathered on Mondays must have their trash at the curbside by 7 a.m. the following day. With city crews tackling an augmented workload, they will collect both Monday's and Tuesday's refuse on May 27. Early risers on Wednesday might note that part of Tuesday's collection could spill into their day, as the collection schedule adjusts to accommodate the short week.
Marion Area Transit also takes a day off, ceasing operations on Memorial Day. According to the city's notice, regular bus riders can expect services to resume normal operation on Tuesday. Making a note of the service interruption now could prevent stranded plans from coming on Monday.
Seniors in Marion should note that there will be a brief hiatus in services offered by the Marion Senior Center. Stay closed on Memorial Day. The center confirms that no transportation services will be available, except for the critical task of dialysis appointments. The necessity of such care is a silent reminder of the day-to-day struggles that pause for no holiday. On the other hand, emergency services like fire, police, and airport operations are steadfast, maintaining regular service even as the city takes a moment to honor those who served and sacrificed.
