Authorities have released the identity of the driver who perished in a horrific crash on April 5 in Baltimore County. According to the Maryland State Police, the tragic accident claimed the lives of Devin Frink, 36, from Baltimore, and two nine-year-old girls, one of whom was his niece. Officials stated that the children were from Towson, and their names have not been disclosed due to legal restrictions.
Details leading up to the fatal incident indicate that at around 11:05 p.m., a State Trooper attempted to pull over the Jeep Wrangler driven by Frink on I-695 at Greenspring Avenue. Frink reportedly accelerated away from the stop, prompting the trooper to disengage rather than give chase, turn off his emergency lights, and rejoin the flow of traffic.
Barely three minutes later, the same trooper discovered the Jeep ablaze, off the roadway on the I-695 ramp to southbound I-83. In attempting to take the exit ramp, it appears that the Jeep veered out of control, made contact with an embankment, collided with a tree, and erupted in flames. All three occupants were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is conducting an active investigation into the crash. They are working to piece together the circumstances that led to this dreadful outcome and bring some measure of closure to the families involved. The Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division is supporting the investigation.
