The potential scheduling fiasco between the 2026 Los Angeles Marathon and the Oscars has been averted, thanks to an intervention by Mayor Karen Bass, who stepped in and smoothed out a new plan for both events to shine in their own time slots. The initial clash, which would have seen both events fighting for the spotlight on March 15, 2026, was resolved as the marathon organizers agreed to push their race to an as-of-yet unannounced date later in March, according to ABC7.
Mayor Bass highlighted the city's commitment to ensuring that its flagship events can both be enjoyed safely and successfully by visitors and locals alike, articulating that the reached settlement allows the LA Marathon and the Oscars to persist as exemplars of LA's vibrancy, in a joint statement with the organizers cited by the Mayor's official website. The marathon will from now on consistently be held on the third Sunday of March each year, moving forward, the collaboration pledges to boost the promotion of both events to enrich the greater Los Angeles community, according to the officials involved.
