The Metropolitan Police Department is actively seeking assistance from the public to identify and track down individuals connected to the shooting of an 18-year-old man in the Southwest Waterfront area. The incident, which occurred last Thursday afternoon, left the victim with multiple gunshot wounds, resulting in life-threatening injuries.
Officers from the First District responded to reports of the shooting at around 3:53 p.m. on the 400 block of M Street, Southwest. The responding officers found the young man still conscious and breathing, albeit in a severe condition. DC Fire and EMS teams were swiftly at the scene to transport the victim to a hospital for urgent treatment. Investigations are ongoing as the police work to quickly apprehend the assailant who was seen fleeing the scene on a scooter, alongside two other individuals of interest.
The police have released surveillance camera images of the suspect and two others potentially involved in the incident. These pictures are available for public viewing, with the authorities urging anyone with information to come forth. The MPD has announced a substantial reward, hoping to incentivize community members to contribute any knowledge they might have related to the shooting.
Community members with information are advised strictly "to take no action" but instead contact the police directly at (202) 727-9099. There's also the option to text a tip to the MPD's dedicated TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The pursuit of justice is intimately tied to cooperation from those it seeks to protect and serve; hence the department has offered up to $10,000 for information that could lead to "the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime" in the District of Columbia.
Residents and witnesses can view the suspect and persons of interest on the MPD’s official website.
