
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has aggressively launched a significant crackdown on illegal online gambling. The board issued cease-and-desist orders against 14 offshore gambling operators accused of targeting Michigan residents without authorization. In the shadow of legal gaming operations, these offshore platforms have been found to solicit and accept wagers on various activities, including casino games and sports betting.
According to a report by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, these rogue entities—names like BetFlip and Juicy Stakes.com—are operating without the required licenses and approvals under the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, and even the Michigan Penal Code, the accused offenders have up to 14 days to cease all illegitimate operations targeted at Michigan locals or they will be subject to further legal consequences, brought forward in connection with the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
"These sites operate in the shadows of the law, offering no guarantees to players and no accountability to the public," Henry Williams, the Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director, underscored the risk these unregulated sites pose to consumers, the unlicensed nature of these operations often leads to inadequate consumer protections, with players exposed to fraud, undelivered or outright denied payment of winnings and a complete dearth of tools for responsible gambling or dispute resolution.
