The Milwaukee Fire Department is celebrating a milestone this year, marking 150 years of steadfast service to its community. As they commemorate this historic achievement, the department has launched an initiative to share stories from its storied past. According to a Facebook post, the department plans to make regular social media posts reflecting on significant events that have shaped its legacy.
In keeping with this initiative, the department has already begun sharing snippets of its history. For example, on May 8, 1891, they battled a third alarm fire at the tinware establishment of the F.A. Walsh Company, and on May 8, 1976, they responded to a fourth alarm at St. Casmir’s School and, a third alarm fire at Buckley’s Hospital Laundry.
The initiative to showcase the department’s history is supported by historical materials provided by the Milwaukee Fire Historical Society & Fire Museum. As they share more of the department’s history, the public is encouraged to learn from these stories and observe how the department continues to evolve.
