Honolulu will experience a change as the high-pressure ridge north of the Hawaiian Islands weakens. According to the National Weather Service, winds will calm to moderate levels through Friday. Stable conditions will keep rain limited to brief showers in windward and mountain areas for the rest of the week. A slight increase in showers is expected from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning, mainly over the western islands.
"Far north of the state, cold fronts continue to dig into and weaken the subtropical ridge, this weaker ridge pattern will continue through Friday," as reported by the National Weather Service. Trade winds are expected to return from Saturday into early next week as the ridge strengthens north of the islands. VFR conditions are forecast statewide through Tuesday, with brief MVFR conditions possible near Kauai this morning due to showers and low clouds. An AIRMET Sierra for mountain obscuration on Kauai is in effect and is expected to clear later in the day.
Easterly trade winds are expected to ease to a gentle pace throughout the week in coastal waters. Small waves are forecast for south-facing shores today, with "a tiny to small long-period reinforcement will expected late tonight followed by another long-period south-southwest swell Wednesday into Thursday," as stated by the National Weather Service. Elevated tides may cause minor coastal flooding during early afternoon high tides through Wednesday, with minimal impact expected. No advisories, watches, or warnings are in effect from the HFO.
