A man has been apprehended on charges of assault with a deadly weapon after an attack on Moorpark Avenue last week. The Moorpark Police Department reports that 28-year-old Francisco Fernandez, a local resident, was arrested at his workplace by detectives from the Moorpark Special Enforcement Unit on Thursday.
The incident in question occurred late in the evening on April 29, when deputies swiftly responded to a victim's report at Simi Valley Hospital. The male victim, aged 25 and hailing from nearby Thousand Oaks, claimed that Fernandez had violently struck him in the head with an object, not immediately identified, and attempted to dangerously run him down with his vehicle. Detectives were able to gather evidence from the scene of the crime at a Moorpark apartment complex, which proved instrumental in linking Fernandez to the alleged battery.
Further details provided by an official statement suggest that the investigation unit is keen to uncover more information and is reaching out to the public to aid their ongoing investigation. According to Detective Jon Nungester's news release, anyone in possession of additional details or video footage of the event is encouraged to contribute anonymously if desired.
Ventura County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for any information that can lead to further arrests and charges in this case. Witnesses can contact Detective Jacob Anderson directly or choose to remain under the veil of anonymity by calling Crime Stoppers. The suspects, and perhaps the community's safety, are better served when those with eyes and ears on the ground come forward to share what they might have seen or heard.
