The Metropolitan Police Department's Major Crash Investigations Unit is on the tail of a white Hyundai Santa Fe following a lethal hit-and-run in Northwest Washington. Early Wednesday morning, an incident at the crossroads of 12th Street and U Street left an adult man unconscious and subsequently pronounced dead, as reported by MPDC. The authorities arrived posthaste but found lifesaving measures to be ineffective in reviving the victim.
Determined by preliminary investigations, the vehicle involved was entwined in two robbery offenses prior to the tragic collision. A robbery occurred at about 3:37 a.m. on the 1700 block of Irving Street, followed by another at 3:41 a.m. near 14th and Newton Street. The police have identified the decedent as Donnel Bracket Phillips, aged 55, hailing from Northeast, D.C.
In the quest for justice and the pursuit of the fleeing suspects, surveillance cameras have captured the suspect vehicle. These critical images now serve as the beacon in the hunt, as the MPD endeavors to unravel the events that culminated in this tragedy. The public is being called upon to play an active role by providing any information that might contribute to the investigation.
A reward of up to $1,000 stands as a testament to the determination of the MPD to apprehend those behind these heinous acts. Anyone with knowledge concerning this case is urged to come forward, may it be by calling the police at (202) 727-9099 or texting tips to 50411. The accumulated efforts of the community and the police force meld together in the hope of delivering justice for both the crimes and the life lost amidst the early morning's darkness.
