According to the official MPD news release, at around 10:19 p.m., police officers from the Seventh District were dispatched to the 4200 block of 4th Street SE following reports of a shooting. They arrived to find three males with gunshot wounds lying in the road. DC Fire and EMS personnel swiftly responded but were unable to save one adult male and one juvenile male, who were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as 16-year-old Royell Walker and 19-year-old Jamar Jackson, both residents of Southeast Washington, DC. The third victim, a 14-year-old male, was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. The investigation is said to now be in the hands of MPD's Major Case Squad. They have made it clear that individuals should not take any action on their own.
In a concerted effort to apprehend those responsible, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a significant reward—up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons behind each homicide occurring within the District of Columbia. Due to the dual nature of this tragic event, the total reward amount in this case has been set at $50,000, as indicated in the MPD's press release.
The Metropolitan Police Department has not yet released any information regarding potential suspects or motives behind the fatal incident.
