The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is set to hold a significant session on the Olmstead Plan at the i2i Center for Integrative Health's Spring 2025 Conference. Scheduled for June 9, the event will take place at the Hilton Raleigh North Hills Hotel from 1:30-4:30 p.m., aiming to bolster the lives and integration of individuals with disabilities into the community. Open to credentialed media, the discussion promises insights into transitioning strategies, community engagement, and service connection efforts, as per the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

During the Advancing Success pre-conference session, NCDHHS will lay out the canvas of supporting work and play choices for people with disabilities, and explain transitioning to community settings. According to a statement obtained by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the event will assemble a diverse group, including people with disabilities, their families, advocates, providers, and government agencies, focused on improving community integration.

The Olmstead Plan underscores NCDHHS’ commitment to fostering integrated lives for people with disabilities and relies on collaboration among an array of stakeholders. Key initiatives from NCDHHS’ Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services will be displayed, aiming to bridge service gaps and extend visibility of the Innovations Waiver. Also, those on the waitlist will learn about immediate service availability.

In a display of shared experiences, people with disabilities are scheduled to speak, and service providers will discuss their journeys to overcome transition challenges to community life. The session will not just be about discussing strategies, but also a testament to the lived experiences of those affected and the providers working with them. Details of new NCDHHS initiatives are expected to increase awareness and outreach, partnering with those who deliver and require services.

Additionally, on June 10, Secretary Sangvai of NCDHHS will engage in further discussions, focusing on behavioral health in North Carolina.
