The Nevada State Senate has passed SB 393, a bill to assist residents of the Windsor Park neighborhood in North Las Vegas, where the ground is shifting beneath nearly 100 homes. The bill was approved in a 15-5 vote, with one senator excused. It will now move to the Assembly for consideration, according to News3LV.

The Windsor Park Environmental Justice Act, passed in 2023, allocated $37 million to relocate residents and construct new homes of comparable size. The project remains in its planning phase as the legislative session approaches its June 2 deadline. In a statement to News3LV, Olivia Tanager, director of the Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter, said, “Windsor Park is emblematic of the environmental injustices that disproportionately affect communities of color.”

Lawmakers have amended a bill to clarify eligibility for assistance and adjust taxes, appropriations, and bond requirements to extend funding deadlines. The changes are intended to support displaced families. As reported by FOX5 Vegas, Windsor Park resident Annie L. Walker said, "I don't want to be a hindrance to anybody, and I mean that," regarding her neighbors' plans to relocate. If the bill passes the Assembly, Senator Neal’s plan is to remove existing homes and convert the area into a park, allowing families who choose to stay to remain as the park is developed around them.
