State Treasurer Zach Conine has announced his candidacy for Nevada's attorney general race in 2026. He is the first major candidate to officially enter the race. The current attorney general, Aaron Ford, is not seeking re-election and is instead preparing a run for governor, according to News 3 LV.
Zach Conine, in an interview with The Nevada Independent, said the attorney general should be ready to address policies from the Trump administration that could affect Nevadans. “We need somebody in that office who has already had their sleeves rolled up, who can, on day one, keep protecting Nevadans,” he said. Conine, who has served as Nevada’s treasurer since 2018, has overseen a team of more than 45 people, managed state funds, and led financial programs, including support for small businesses during the pandemic. He also managed college savings plans and scholarship programs and said he wants to continue that work in a new role.
Zach Conine has launched his campaign for Nevada Attorney General, focusing on economic issues and fiscal responsibility. His campaign released an advertisement on Wednesday morning, more than a year before the June 9, 2026 Primary Election. In an interview with The Nevada Independent, Conine said, "I've been to communities large and small. [I] have been putting in the work to be an effective and respected statewide elected official for six years and we will hold our record up against literally anyone's." Possible opponents include Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro and conservative lawyer Joey Gilbert, though neither has officially announced a run. Conine has also stated that his campaign will focus on protecting state rights from federal overreach.
