As the City of Arlington continues to tout its status as "The American Dream City," a new pickleball court at ACTIV is serving as a hotspot for joy and engagement among older adults. Located at 2061 W. Green Oaks Blvd, ACTIV is a modern recreation center specifically designed for the 50+ crowd, providing various facilities such as a gymnasium, pool, fitness area, walking tracks, and now, pickleball courts.
Dedicated to creating a dynamic environment for its members, ACTIV has rolled out the welcome mat with four indoor courts that lie within the gymnasium, perfect for weatherproof play. Alongside the patio in Centennial Park, nestled among six outdoor courts open to the public, is a walking trail that invites camaraderie and competition. According to the City of Arlington, Mayor Jim Ross personally tested the courts, saying, "If I can get out here and do this, anybody can get out here and do this."
The fun and accessibility of these new amenities were highlighted during the latest episode of Explore Arlington, a local initiative spotlighting the vibrant community activities and small businesses throughout Arlington. Mayor Ross's foray into pickleball was featured, illustrating the ease with which residents can dive into new and enjoyable experiences.
The Explore Arlington series, which takes locals on an exploration of what the city has to offer, has been ensuring that no stone in Arlington's rich tapestry of community offerings is left unturned. Found on various platforms like cable and social media, the series promotes local businesses, outdoor activities, and tourism destinations. Jim Ross shared his enthusiasm during the episode, "This is so much fun. It's all out here at the ACTIV. Y'all come on out and take advantage of this wonderful facility," as mentioned by a City of Arlington release.
