Imoleayo Samuel Aina, a Nigerian national, entered a guilty plea on various charges, including cyberstalking and money laundering, connected to the case of sexual extortion that led to a young man's death in Pennsylvania, as detailed in an announcement from United States Attorney David Metcalf. Aina, who used the alias "Alice Dave," is 27 years old and was brought to face justice in the United States after being apprehended and extradited from Nigeria alongside his co-defendant, Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun.
Arrested by the FBI on July 31, 2024, after having been taken into custody in their home country, Aina and 25-year-old Abiodun faced charges in August 2024 following an indictment. Their efforts were part of a wider conspiracy that led to a tragic outcome in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Abiodun has also pleaded guilty in December to charges including money laundering conspiracy and is waiting for his June 10 sentencing, where he could receive up to a century behind bars.
A third defendant, Afeez Olatunji Adewale, also 25, has been charged with similar crimes and remains in Nigeria pending extradition. According to a U.S. Attorney's Office notice, Aina is set for sentencing on August 11. She could potentially face a life sentence for his role in cyberstalking and contributing to the young man's death.
Investigative credits in the case were shared among the FBI and the local Abington Township Police Department, displaying considerable inter-agency cooperation. As Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Brown reported, the international span of the investigation highlighted the collaborative efforts between U.S. authorities and Nigerian security agencies, including Nigeria’s Attorney General and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. This international law enforcement partnership played a crucial role in bringing the defendants to the United States to ensure they face the consequences of their criminal acts.
