The City of North Las Vegas is rolling out a roster of community events throughout May to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. Residents are invited to join in various festivities designed to acknowledge the influence and diversity of AANHPI communities. The program of events, including cultural performances, crafts, movie screenings and more, aims to foster connectivity and education on the contributions of AANHPI individuals.
One of the highlight events, the AANHPI Heritage Month Celebration, is scheduled for May 10, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Aliante Nature Discovery Park. In a statement obtained by the City of North Las Vegas announcement, Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown expressed enthusiasm for the community's participation: "Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month is about honoring the stories, traditions and contributions that help make North Las Vegas the amazing city it is." The event promises cultural performances, live entertainment, and a showcase of local AANHPI vendors, among other attractions.
For those looking to indulge in cultural cuisines, the ‘Flavors of Aloha’ at Craig Ranch Regional Park offers a taste of Hawaiian delicacies on May 3. The youth-centric side of activities includes a ‘Craft Buffet’ at Alexander Library on May 7 and opportunities to craft Japanese Flying Carp Kites at the Aliante Library on May 8 and again at City Hall Library on May 12. Another family-friendly event is Movies in the Park, featuring the films 'Moana' and 'Lilo & Stitch' on May 9 and May 23, respectively.
An ongoing AANHPI Art Exhibit at Stone Soup Art Gallery at the City of North Las Vegas City Hall also highlights artistic contributions from the community. City Manager Micaela Moore, whose heritage is itself a testament to the city's diversity, told officials, "AANHPI Heritage Month reminds us how important it is to honor the cultures and communities that have helped build and shape our city.” These sentiments reinforce the significance of these events in celebrating and learning from the plurality of the city's makeup.
